Off the Market

Well guys and gals I didn't chicken out and now I'm officially off the market. #1 draft pick for Team Liz.

So my plan went pretty well. I blindfolded her and drove down to Lancaster and she thought we were actually going to the Applebee's where we first met but she had a feeling it was one of the places I'd take her. So we walked up the path to the top of the hill (which is rather steep if you've never been there) and stopped along the way a couple times. When we got to one spot where there's sort of a fork in the path off along the path to the left side there were 2 female deer standing there staring right at us! That was pretty neat because we just stood there and watched them and they just stared back at us. One was a bit larger and I think it was the mother of the other one. Eventually the mother got sort of spooked and started trotting off away from us with its tail in the air and the littler one joined her.

So we continued our walk up the hill and made it to the top. Yeah we're out of shape, we can't even climb a dumb little hill or mountain or whatever. When we got to the top we just stood there for awhile and looked down at the city that the hill overlooks. So eventually I asked her if she liked her surprise so far, and of course she did so I asked if she wanted another part of her surprise, then when she said yes I pulled out a deck of cards from my right pocket that I had got at the job fair that day just to throw her off. She didn't want those from me so I pulled out the ring box from my other pocket and popped the question, which of course she said yes to. *mushy stuff ensues* then we decided we were cold and hungry and some random lady walking her dog showed up too so we went to Applebee's for dinner, then to her parent's place, then back to her place for a little while (and no my army of babies hasn't begun yet), then I had to come home and write my lab report that's due tomorrow.

So there you go. Seeing the deer was pretty neat, writing my lab report wasn't. Time for sleep. Nick let me know when you're drinking so I can drink with you. Peaceout!

Kevin wrote in his blog so now I have to write in mine too

Well in a little over a month I'll be down in Lexington getting ready for my job at Lexmark. Hopefully there will be a robot course complete and I also am able to complete all my programming labs this quarter. Man all this work really is starting to get to me though. I'm forgetting to do various things that I normally wouldn't and of course no time for any fun of any sort during the week, just work work work!
Too bad I can't get some student help on the robot course, I'm sure they'd be glad to work on it just to get a sneak peak of what it's going to look like, but I guess that's against the rules so no peeking!
I finally found my nail clippers on my desk last night. That means I could clip my nails! Not that they were really scary or anything, I just was happy that they were still somewhere around here. I still haven't found my stapler though. Staaaaaaaaaaaaapler where are you?!?!?!?!
Wednesday is the jobby job fair. Guess I'll go visit the Liebert booth and give the my resume and hope they'll at least consider me for a job there again. I don't think that will really be a problem, but you never know what they're thinking anymore.
So the left arrow on the keyboard is starting to wear out. That's kind of sad since this keyboard has lasted since I first started college. It's survived having both orange juice and milk poured in it and my taking it apart multiple times to clean it out. Maybe if I clean it out again it'll get better. The keys are getting well-worn and I'm kind of partial to it now. I hope it doesn't die on me! I'll have to have a funeral for it.
Man I'm not even sure what I should take with me when I move down to Lexington. Well I know I need clothes, that's kind of obvious, but I wonder if I'll need sheets and pillows for my bed, my comfy desk chair, and what about a TV? I think I have the computer area covered. What about kitchen items? Man I just don't know... so much to do. Oh well at least I can make weekend trips to get things.
I need to get my car in for an oil change sometime soon too. It's coming up on that time yet again.
And I'm rambling. Yay! Cookies! Sleep! Yes! 20!

When You Spoke My Name

Well I just got back awhile ago from seeing a concert with Liz. The highlights were Jeremy Camp and MercyMe and opening were the Afters and Monk & Eagle. Monk & Eagle were a group of two guys both playing accoustic guitar. They had one song I think I heard on 104.9 a couple times, and they were a really nice relaxing way to start the whole concert. The Afters were a more upbeat rock band that apparently will be going mainstream rather soon.
Jeremy Camp was of course great with his mix of rock and worship music. I really hoped he would have played "Take My Life" but he didn't. Oh well maybe I'll get to see him again sometime.
All of the groups were great in their own respect, you ever want to go to a truly honest and down to earth worship concert, you must definately go see MercyMe live. The combination of their down to earth music and the visuals that go along with it are simply amazing and seem to just stop me in my tracks from one song to the next.
For those that aren't familiar with their stage setup, they typically have a large projector screen or two set up behind the stage which project videos which sometimes look like music videos and sometimes simply have an artistic rendition of the words of the song being played, all in time and on beat with the music. How the timing is so well done I'm curious about, but that's the engineering side of me getting off topic with what this post is all about.
Not only do the visuals take your breath away, but the manner in which the band respects the people that have come to see them is so awesome. One of the most dramatic things that caught me tonight was the end of one of the songs where the audience is singing along. Bart (the lead vocalist) asks for voices only and the band stops playing, then as we sing the chorus one more time the lights that are shining on the band slowly fade away and the lights on the audience become brighter, so that at the end of the verse it's only us and the lights on them have completely gone out. Maybe I'm being silly, but it just seemed like a way of showing why they were here.
So during another set Bart stops and tells us about his past year and how hard it's been for him. He tells about how his family has been hit by one tradegy after another from a fatal car crash to a brain tumor for family members. Then he talked about how he managed to keep going on, and how his outlet for his pain is to sing about God's grace, which was the inspiration for the song, "Keep Singing" which he then sang for us. During this song I couldn't help but think about how things seem so hard for me sometimes with all the work I've been trying to get done, the decisions about what to do with my life next, careers, and all that stuff. I also thought about one of my students who I've been praying for a lot lately. She seems to think there's nothing good about her, but I know better than this. I wish she would realize that there are so many positive things about her and there can be better outlets for coping with the stress and issues that she has. I just know God has a plan for her, and even though she doesn't seem to see anything good coming from it right now, I think it just takes time for her to get out of this trough that she's in. For some reason many of the things I've been hearing at church and in Bible study and even at this concert have been dealing with pain and stress and issues like this. God has to be telling me something too.
So MercyMe played Liz's and my song, "I Can Only Imagine," as the second to last song. I think that made her really happy. They also played a song off their new CD, "When You Spoke My Name," which I really enjoyed. I need to get their new CD now so I can enjoy these songs driving to school and back.

Alright that's enough for tonight. Wow 2 posts this week. You guys are really lucky.

I can't find anything on my desk

So for some reason there are things I used to keep on my desk that I just can't find. Those things being my stapler and nail clippers. So I guess my desk is consuming random items now in the black hole of stuff which is basically what my desk becomes when I'm way too busy. And that's exactly why I also haven't written in this thing much also. Not because my stapler is missing, but because I've been so darn busy. Just for fun let's make a list of the various things I need to get done before the end of the quarter:

-Get roughly 240 student pictures converted and accounts created for the picture database
-Get roughly 50 staff pictures converted and accounts created for the staff pictures database
-Fix any random website problems that occur and continue my crazy updates to the various systems
-Try to coordinate (and get work done on) the building of this year's robot course (which includes coordinating building locations, materials, volunteers, and anything else I'm currently forgetting)
-Work on the Handyboard replacement robot controller, where I wish I could devote a majority of my time, but never really get to
-Teach FEH labs and grade lab memos
-Work on my own programming labs which consume a good amount of time when they don't work the first time
-Appear at various social events, job interviews, infosessions, etc. in my pursuit of what I will do next after my Master's degree
-Somehow get some sleep and spend time with Liz.

So as you can tell I'm extremely busy lately. The most recent news though is I may be in Texas next Monday for an interview with Raytheon. I'm not sure yet since they still think I'm graduating in June, so I had to email them back with that update and haven't heard about as to whether they still want to interview me right now or not. I guess I should find out tomorrow, or at least I hope so so I can sort of plan what I'll be doing this weekend.
Today was also a Liebert-sponsored luncheon and presentation about working there. Since I interned there years ago I already had the inside scoop, but I had to go and see what was going on and how open they are to hiring people now since I never did get my second internship with them due to a hiring freeze way back when. So there was a video about this award Emerson gives out each year for the most innovative design, which just happened to go to the Nfinity line of products which I actually helped test and work out some bugs back when I was an intern there. The video also had a lot of the engineers that I worked with in it, and since I hadn't seen them in a long time it was nice to see they were still around too. So after that presentation I went and talked to the guy that was giving the presentation and told him that I had worked on that product way back when. He then was asking when I'd be graduating and how he was looking for some good EE's. So I guess that's reassuring that I can try getting a job there again, and it being near Columbus I wouldn't have to worry about moving.

Alright, well I've run out of exciting new news and it's time for sleep, so maybe in another week or two I'll update this thing again for the 1 or 2 people that actually read it. Ok peaceout!
